I’ve decided to start something up here called Simple Moments… and I’ll make it on Mondays because Monday’s are by rule of thumb a tough day of the work week! Oh and also because alliteration is awesome. I’m doing this because live in my head about 90% of the time, and I am really trying to work on that. I’ve realised not only does it heighten my anxiety, but it also means the world flies by and I miss out on so many things. Something that’s been helping this tendency of mine is to stop and take stock of the little, yet awesome, moments that make up my day
So. Today was Australia Day. A day where everyone gets out the BBQ & beer, listens to Triple J’s Hottest 100 and generally has a grand old time. Today, I had to work. Major bummer. (Never fear, we did celebrate the previous day – more on that to come!)
My job is, a lot of the time, mentally draining, so when I finish work for the day I usually need to immerse myself in something completely un-work related to shake it all off. Today was definitely one of those days!
Therefore, today I got home from work and decided to do my new favourite thing – gardening. It’s nothing too special as I live in an apartment with a balcony, but I’m developing my green thumb and I love it. I love learning as I go and creating something beautiful and alive for me to look at everyday. Today I potted some Gardenias and some New Guinea Impatiens. We’ll see how they go, as flowers generally tend to love sun and my balcony doesn’t get much of it. I picked these ones however because they can stand up to long periods of shade (oh god, I hope!).
This little project didn’t take me long – simple project, blissful moment.
